Serve Day
Overview
Serve Day is a large-scale community outreach initiative that mobilizes volunteers across the Salt Lake Valley to engage in hands-on service projects. With over 500 participants contributing to efforts such as painting fire hydrants, cleaning the Downtown Rescue Mission, and revitalizing public spaces, the event is both a practical and symbolic expression of local unity and compassion.
The Challenge
The key challenge was to design a vibrant and cohesive visual identity that reflected the mission of Serve Day—to meet real needs with real love—while inspiring participation, promoting clarity across multiple service sites, and building a strong sense of belonging among volunteers.
The Approach
To support and elevate the Serve Day experience, I led the creative development across multiple deliverables:
Brand & Visual Identity
Developed a bold, energetic visual language that conveyed joy, service, and community spirit. This included typography, color palette, and iconography that could scale across digital and physical assets.Event Signage
Designed clear and engaging signage to guide volunteers, mark project zones, and highlight key service areas. Each piece was crafted to reinforce the mission and spark a sense of purpose and direction.Marketing & Promotion
Produced promotional videos and digital graphics to generate excitement and drive awareness in the weeks leading up to the event. These assets played a crucial role in mobilizing volunteers and encouraging community involvement.Volunteer T-Shirts
Designed custom event t-shirts to unify participants and visually represent the spirit of Serve Day. The shirts served as both a keepsake and a symbol of shared mission and teamwork.
The Outcome
Serve Day was a resounding success, with over 500 volunteers actively engaging in meaningful projects throughout the community. The visual identity contributed to a seamless and energizing experience—ensuring volunteers felt informed, inspired, and unified from start to finish.
The cohesive design system not only enhanced the logistical flow of the day but also amplified the event’s message: that when a community comes together in service, transformation happens—both in neighborhoods and in hearts. Through strategic visual storytelling and intentional design, the event left a lasting impression on all who participated.
